Most of this is covered in the tutorial entries, the only new part here is the \frac{\ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ }{}. \frac{}{} is a command that can be used in math mode (i.e. not inside a \text{} tag) to make a fraction. I used this to make the vertically centered lines sorrounding , by making an empty fraction and elongating it using spaces on the numerator.
